A revolutionary breakthrough is now available to verify personal identifiers!
The Social Security Administration allows authorized companies access to their SSA Master files to mitigate fraud and identify theft. The name of this service is Consent Based Social Security Number Verification, or “CBSV”.
What is CBSV?
It’s a verification of name, SSN, date of birth, gender and death indicator back to SSA source records, developed and administered by the Social Security Administration.
How does it work?
- Your applicant signs a consent form releasing their SSN for a specific business purpose or transaction.
- CBSV is conducted, verifying name, SSN, DOB, Gender and Death Indicator by the Social Security Administration. This provides instant, online results of personal identifiers, and can be used for many purposes in every market segment (i.e., pre-employment, tenant screening, mortgages/loans, medical, higher education, financial, insurance and more).
How is CBSV different than E-Verify?
- E-Verify is not allowed for pre-employment verification.
- E-Verify only checks Name and SSN.
How is CBSV different than the Social Security Trace conducted as part of our pre-employment background checks?
- A traditional Social Security Trace report is comprised of information from the three Credit Bureaus (Experian, TransUnion and Equifax). Also known as a “credit header”, the name/address information provided is a result of activity reported by the credit bureaus – it is not reported by the Social Security Administration.
- Only the year and state of issuance shown at the bottom of a Social Security Trace report is provided by the Social Security Administration.
