A clear picture of your candidate’s employment history can be very useful when selecting the right candidate. By connecting with the previous employers, we can uncover relevant information about their past performance, skill-set and work ethic by identifying possible employment gaps or job-related issues.

Ascertain’s employment verification process will obtain dates of employment, position held, and if provided by the employer, salary information, reason for termination and eligibility for rehire. If possible, any performance-related information or factual comments related to performance are also included in our report. The name and title (or department) of the individual verifying the information and the date we received the verification is also provided.

Ascertain will not typically rely on the contact names and phone numbers provided on the application to verify employment. Official verification will be obtained through the employer’s Human Resource Department or other qualified personnel. This practice will help ensure the verification is obtained through official channels and not from an unauthorized or unreliable source – or in the unlikely situation that the applicant may provide a false contact, such as a friend, for verification.

Employers No Longer in Business - For those previous employers which no longer hold records or are no longer in business, Ascertain will recommend an alternative method for verification, such as documentation to support the employment.

Gaps in employment – A gap of employment is not always a red flag, but significant or lengthy unexplained gaps should be identified. Any gaps in employment which are uncovered through our process can be noted on our report.

Military Service – If your candidate has served in the U.S. Military within the respective verification period, we will recommend requesting a copy of the DD Form 214, which provides dates of service, rank, position, type of discharge, and other pertinent information relative to their military history.

Reference interviews
Ascertain can conduct standard level or executive level reference interviews to help you learn more about your candidate. Interviews are conducted through references provided by your applicant. Our general recommendation is to obtain professional references such as previous supervisors or colleagues, or perhaps a candidate’s pastor or teacher, rather than references who are personal friends or family members.

Our standard level interview consists of six (6) to seven (7) general questions about your candidate’s job performance and character.

Prior to conducting our executive level interview, we will work with you to obtain relevant interview questions pertaining to the specific role of the individual.
